The Jade Paw Project is a volunteer non-profit that raises money for animal rescue organizations. We were inspired by the Teal Cat Project, which raised tens of thousands of dollars for animals over its three year run, but wrapped up its last campaign in early 2014. We love our teal cats, and wanted to continue the mission of saving lives through tchotchkes.
The Jade Paw Project runs 2-3 campaigns per year. In the offseason, we scour local thrift stores for cat figurines. (You can help us reach our next campaign faster by donating cats!) Then, we clean them up, paint them green, and hand-number each one for authenticity. Once our litter of kitties is ready to go, we open up the next campaign and make the upcycled figurines available for sale in our shop. Once they’re gone, they’re gone – until we can restock the litter and prepare the next campaign.
The proceeds from each campaign are donated to an animal rescue organization. A different organization is selected for each campaign, so we can spread the love! Details will be posted to our blog prior to and during each campaign. You can also sign up for our newsletter to be notified in advance, or follow us on Facebook.
Jade cats are hand-painted, tagged, packaged, and shipped by a 1-person crew. Most packages will ship within 2 business days of order, but please allow 1-2 weeks for delivery, just in case. If you have any questions about your order, feel free to contact us via email at email@example.com.
Several factors went into choosing the name and color for the Jade Paw Project. First, we wanted to use the word “paw” so that we could include both cats and dogs (and potentially other animals) in our fundraising campaigns. Next, we wanted to choose a color that wasn’t already in use by lots of other groups in the US. (Have you googled “purple paw” lately?) Finally, we wanted something that was easy to say and spell and remember. (Fuchsia Paw just wasn’t going to cut it, as lovely as the color would be!)
As for the color itself, we wanted a green that was bright and fun and, honestly, would look good next to our teal cats. We’re helping to give cats a second chance – a new lease on life – and we thought that deserved an eye-catching pop of color. While the green may be better described as a key lime or bright green, we hope you will allow its relative proximity to jade and just roll with it.
Jade cats are sold in 3 approximate sizes: trinket sized (up to 3″ wide or tall), mantle sized (4-6″ wide or tall), and centerpiece sized (7-12″ wide or tall).
Every jade cat is unique and wild, just like their furry counterparts. The cats shown here are samples, and there are many more styles, shapes, and sizes of jade cats. We may find 5 or 6 of the same cat figurine, or we may find just one unique cat! We never know what we’ll find when we’re out thrifting to restock our litter, and we never know what great future jade pets we’ll receive by donation. You can choose the size of your new jade cat, but cannot choose which specific style you’ll receive. Rest assured that your jade cat will be funky, cool, fun, and collectible, and will support the life-saving work of a great animal rescue organization!
We would love to give your old ceramic cats a second chance and a great new home! Please check out the Donate a Figurine page to make sure we will be able to use your ceramic cats and dogs. Once you’re sure they meet the guidelines, pack them up well and ship them to:

Thanks so much for considering a donation! All donations go directly to project costs (buying cat figurines to upcycle, paint, shipping supplies, etc). We are a volunteer non-profit and do not take any wages for the labor involved in running the project. You can send donations via PayPal to firstname.lastname@example.org or use our Donation button.
We would love to hear your suggestions for animal rescue organizations to support. Please email email@example.com with the name and web address of your favorite animal rescue organization, and a short description of why you think they’re a great candidate for donations. Note that the organization must operate and accept donations in the US. With so many amazing organizations out there, we can’t promise that we’ll get to yours, but we can promise we will consider it!
2016: The Summer 2016 campaign supported Cat’s Cradle of Harrisonburg, Virginia – the rescue where Ziva of Daffy & Friends fame was adopted! Ziva is Daffy, Polly, and Merlin’s sister. We raised $400! AND, the funds we raise during this campaign will be MATCHED as part of Cat’s Cradle’s Summertime Challenge! We will make DOUBLE THE DIFFERENCE for cats and kittens in need!
Cat’s Cradle is a no-kill cat shelter, but their mission to end pet over-population extends far beyond rescue, foster, and adoption. They spearheaded the opening of a low-cost spay/neuter clinic for cats and dogs, and run a TNR (trap-neuter-return) program for feral cats. Their adoption and foster program places more than 400 cats and kittens in forever homes every year, and their spay/neuter and TNR teams assist with more than 2,000 sterilizations per year (and growing). Learn more about Cat’s Cradle’s history and mission.
2015: The first two Jade Paw Project campaigns supported Justin, Fire Survivor’s Kitty Krusade, Inc. If you don’t know Justin’s story, he was intentionally set on fire at just a month old and suffered awful 2nd and 3rd degree burns. He got a second chance at life and against all odds, survived! Now, Justin is the spokeskitty for The Kitty Krusade, Inc. The Kitty Krusade rescues high risk abused, neglected, injured, and ill kitties and helps them get the foster and medical care they desperately need. Our very own Daffy Duck and Polly were rescued from a shelter kill list by Justin!
The winter campaign benefitted Oliver, an awesome CH kitty fostered by Justin:
“My name is Oliver and this is my rescue story. I’m about a 10 month old little boy who was found abandoned in a cardboard box. But you see I’m a kitten with special needs. I was born with severe Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH). My disability causes me to be extremely unsteady, have little to no balance, have tremors, and make uncoordinated movements — just like ataxic cerebral palsy in people. Step-by-step, I’m learning to stand, walk, climb, jump, and do other kitten things. I’m falling over less and less, but when I do I get back up again… I’m not giving up!
What Makes You Different Makes You Special,
We raised a total of $2,555.00 for The Kitty Krusade, Inc.
